Philander Lavergy married Miss Eliza Caroline Bickley in Greene Co., Dec. 17, 1835. The marriage was performed by William R. Hinton, MG. Eliza died June 23, 1836 at the residence of Captain Pease after a short but severe illness. On Feb. 21, 1841, near Tuscaloosa, Captain Lavergy married Miss Mary Virginia Bickley, Eliza's sister. Philander at this time was captain of the steamboat "Hercules". Philander is possibly the son of Philander and Lucy Hoyt Lavergy and brother to Amy Lavergy. Philander was born in 1808 in New York, Amy was born 1811 in New York, but the family could not be seen in the 1810 New York census. Lucy Lavergy is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, having died there in 1866.
