(From a faded photocopy made from an unknown book)

JOHN CRIBBS, son of George Cribbs Sr. was born Jan 7, 1791, and
baptized Oct. 22, 1793.   The sponsors were the parents, George and
Barbara Krebs (Cribbs) themselves.   (Records of the Greensburg Lutheran
church.)   He lived for a time near Livermore, in Derry township, but
owned property in Blacklick twp. of Indiana Co.

Nov. 14, 1825, Deed from George Cribbs Jr. and wife Rebecca, of
Blacklick, to John Cribbs of Derry twp., for 500 dollars, land in
Blacklick, 55 7/10 acres (originally bought from Caldwell by George
Cribbs Sr. and by him deeded to George Cribbs Jr.).  Recorded Dec. 19,
1825 (Indiana Deed Book 6, p. 33).

Sept. 15, 1827.   Deed from David Lintner of Blacklick, to John
Cribbs, blacksmith of Derry twp., for 80 dollars, land in Blacklick, "on
the turnpike", 1 acre, 2 perches.  Recorded Sept. 26, 1829.  (Book 24, p.
538).

April 5, 1828.  Deed from John Cribbs of Derry twp., Westmoreland
Co., blacksmith, and Sarah his wife, to Prosper K. Howard of Blacklick,
for 248 dollars, land in Blacklick, 55 7/10 acres, part of a tract by
deed from John Caldwell to George Cribbs dated Nov. 6, 1815, conveyed by
deed March 19, 1822, from George Cribbs to George Cribbs, Jr. by him
conveyed to John Cribbs on Nov. 14, 1825 -- description shows the
boundary touched the land of Jacob Altman and heirs of Moses Stewart.
Recorded July 7, 1828 (Indiana Deed book 6, p. 542).

This transfer would seem to have included the small one acre, 2 perches
property deeded by Lintner, for Prosper Howard was in possession of this
and on Nov. 5, 1829, deeded it to John Grant.

Soon after this time John Cribbs removed with his family to Clarion Co.
(then called Armstrong Co.).

June 4, 1835,  Deed from Bartholomew Wister, John Siter and
Richard Price, by their attorney, to John Cribbs, for 129 dollars, land
in Toby township of Armstrong Co., 91 acres and allowances.  Recorded
Sept. 23, 1835  (Armstrong Co. Deed book 9, p. 83).

John Cribbs married, about 1820, Sarah Jane Cribbs, the daughter
of Major Jacob Cribbs and his wife Mary Altman.  She was born May 11,
1803, and baptized by Rev. Weber on Feb. 12, 1804.  The sponsor was
Elizabeth Klingelschmidt.   Sarah died in 1839.  Then in 1845 John
married Penina Tax in Clarion Co.   Nine children were born to each
marriage.   When John became so old he couldn't support his family and
likewise so cantankerous that his wife couldn't live with him, Penina
took her family and left him about 1860.   She appeared near Blairsville,
Ind. Co., and there bought Aug. 10, 1864, a small plot of ground, 40 a.,
15 p., in Burrell Tp. on the Conemaugh R. in Ind. Co. (Ind. Co. Will B.
30, p. 77) on which she made a living for her family.

Penina Cribbs signed an oil lease dated Jan. 18, 1865 to R. C.
Green and others for petroleum rights in a tract of land in Burrell Tp.
on the Conemaugh R., adjoining land of Chas. Campbell, witnessed by
Priscilla Cribbs and Martin Black (B. 17, p. 550).
