CRIBBS – Pittsburgh to Denver
Margaretha Fredericka (Rica) Lauer Schweitzer was born in Sendersheim, Baden, Germany on 9 July 1835. She
immigrated to the United States in 1856 and died 17 Dec 1914 in Pittsburgh. She is buried at St. Peter's Church
Cemetery in Pittsburgh alongside her husband, Johann Andreas (Andrew). Andrew died on 2 April 1891.
In the 1900 Census for Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, Rica is listed as Head of Household at 6027 Rodman
Street as follows:
Fredrickie Switzer; born Germany; immigrated 1856.
Anna S. Richold; daughter; age 24; born PA March 1876.
George Richold; son-in-law; age 24; born PA 1876.
Elizabeth Richold; granddaughter; age 1; born PA 1899.
Fredrickie Cribbs; daughter; age 38; born PA March 1862.
Charles W. Cribbs; grandson; age 13; born PA July 1886. [Note: No further info on Charles after this date.]
William R. Cribbs; grandson; age 4; born PA Jan 1896.
[Notes: incorrect spellings above are known to be – Fredrickie/Fredericka; Switzer/Schweitzer;
Richold/Reichhold. In earlier Census reports, Mrs. Cribbs was called Rachel.]
The Census notes that Mrs. Schweitzer had 13 children, of which 7 were living. Both she and daughter,
Fredericka, were listed as widows.
The 1910 Census lists the following in SD-1, ED-149, Ward-11, Precinct-9, Sheet 10B living at 946 Lipson
Street, Denver, CO, dwelling 115, family 139:
Head of Household - Theo Heinemann, age 54, married 2nd time for 12 years; immigrated in 1876 and
naturalized. Born and parents born in Germany. Employed as a life insurance agent.
Wife - Emma, age 42, married once, no children. Immigrated 1885.
Son - William G., age 28, born and mother born in PA, father born in Germany. Machinist in a plumbing shop.
Nephew - William Cribbs, age 14, born in PA, parents born in Germany
Also listed are three unrelated lodgers.
The 1920 Census lists in Denver City, Denver County, Block 1594, SD 3, ED 16-51, living at 965 Kalmath
Street; own home valued at $3000 with no radio set:
Theodore Heinemann, husband; age 63; born Germany; immigrated 1876; naturalized 1884.
Emma, wife; age 51; born Germany; immigrated 1885; naturalized 1892.
Fritz Koch, father-in-law; age 78; immigrated 1882; naturalized 1887.
Augusta Koch, mother-in-law; age 77; immigrated 1885; naturalized1887.
William R. Cribbs, nephew; age 23; born PA.
[Note: Emma listed above is known to be Emma Koch Heinemann, the second wife of Theodore. His first wife
was Emma Schweitzer, sister of Rachel Schweitzer Cribbs who was the mother of William R. Cribbs.]

The 1930 Census lists as follows: SD 3, ED 16-68, Sheet 8A, 6th District, Block 1878, Denver, Colorado in
Denver County, renting at 1249 South Pearl Street with no radio set:
Head - William R. Cribbs, age 34 married at 24, he and parents born in PA, employed as a cleaner in the
cleaning and drying industry.
Wife - Sarah A., age 33, married at 23, born in Colorado, parents born in the Irish Free State.
[Notes: The Schweitzer section of St. Peter's Church Cemetery on Lemington Avenue, Pittsburgh, contains
numerous illegible tombstones with only the last name clear. In addition, nearby are the following remains, not
otherwise linked to the Cribbs individuals mentioned above.
