The Michael Krebs (Cribbs) family moved from Europe in the early 1700's to Montgomery County, PA. His grandchildren moved westward to the Westmoreland-Indiana- Armstrong county area. Many Cribbs remain in this area to this day. My particular leg of this family moved further westward to help pioneer New Philadelphia, Tuscawaras Co., Ohio. Several Cribbs sons moved southward to Alabama. It was about this time that slavery was active, thus the black Cribbs family was begun. Many of the Cribbs family of this southern line moved to the Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Michigan, and California area. Today, the descendants use the spelling "Cribbs", "Krebs", "Kreps", "Creps", or "Crepps". Links to notes relating to this family can be found at the bottom of this page.
The John
George Cribbs family moved from Europe
about 1783 to Lancaster County, PA. A year or two later they
moved to the Indiana County area. This family (as well as the
Michael Krebs family) can be found with a variety of Cribbs spellings depending
upon which census is being read. Some show a family with "Krebs", some
with "Kribs", "Crebs", "Creps", "Cribs", and "Kribbs". Today
this family for the most part uses "Kribbs" or "Cribbs". Links

These Cribbs actually
seem to have landed somewhere in the Virginia-Carolinas area and migrated
into Tennessee and Georgia areas. From Tennessee, many
moved into Arkansas, North Alabama, Mid-Texas, and Oklahoma.
My work on this family is small (1894 names) but covers 582 families from
about 1750. The earliest progenitor for this family in
my record is Thomas Cribbs who married
Agnes
Dunlap.
If you are not sure which book you belong to, here's a way that you can find out: Send me the names of your great-grandparents or at least your grandparents, any dates you have associated with them, and where they lived and I will try to determine which book is your family. Once this is determined, I would like to add any information to the history that you can submit. Any recent births, deaths, or marriage information is appreciated. If you would like to write a tribute to an ancestor or a parent that you would like to have as part of your Cribbs family history, feel free to submit it.
