1849 John M. Kirk became postmaster and
on that date the name of the post
office was changed from
Crossville to Military Springs.
The reason, if any, for the
change, the records do not show.
Mr. Kirk served until
February 24, 1851 and was succeeded
by Peter CRIBBS, who
served from that date until June 29,
1854. Postmaster
CRIBBS' salary for the year 1851 appears
to have been in two
installments of $6.85 each.
His salary for 1853 was $16.57.
"On June 29, 1854
Peter
CRIBBS was succeeded as
postmaster by Martha A. CRIBBS, whether
related to him or not
the record does not show. She
served until February 5, 1856.
Her salary for the year was $20.31."
